How to be successful going to garage sales and purchasing as a buyer or reseller.

Buying from garage sales can be a great way to find unique items at a low cost. Here are some tips to help you be successful at garage sales:
  1. Plan ahead: Before heading out to garage sales, make a list of the items you're interested in buying. This will help you stay focused and avoid buying items you don't need.

  2. Get there early: The early bird often gets the best deals at garage sales. Try to arrive early to get first pick of the items for sale. Don't get there too early. Then everything won't be out yet.

  3. Bring cash: Most garage sales only accept cash, so make sure you bring enough to cover your purchases. Sometimes, nowadays they also accept Venmo, PayPal, Zelle, but I wouldn't come on it.

  4. Negotiate: Don't be afraid to negotiate the price with the seller. Many sellers are willing to negotiate, especially if you're buying multiple items.

  5. Inspect items carefully: Before buying anything, make sure to inspect it carefully for any damage or defects. Ask the seller if they have any information on the history or condition of the item.

  6. Dress appropriately: Wear comfortable shoes and clothes that you don't mind getting a little dirty. You may need to do some digging through boxes and piles of items. You may even want to bring gloves for digging. I always spray with tick spray to keep the ticks off in case I'm in a lot of grassy areas. Also, be cognizant of whether it is hot or cold out; check the weather first.

  7. Be respectful: Remember that you're in someone's personal space, so be respectful of their property and don't make a mess. Also, don't say anything if the prices are ridiculous just try to get a lower price or leave. You never know what they are selling and if someone just passed and it has sentimental value so be kind.

  8. Follow the rules: Some garage sales have rules about parking or browsing, so make sure to follow them.

By following these tips, you can increase your chances of finding great deals at garage sales and building your collection of unique items.
